Artificial Intelligence ceased to be fiction

Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be present in every second of the life of each company and each connected person and has an enormous potential that opens the doors to a wide range of opportunities where you can compete using it.

The company Gartner responsible for conducting business analysis has predicted that by 2022 the growth of the business value of the AI will reach a total of US $ 3.5 billion. Quite a lot more than the US $ 980 million that is estimated in this year 2018 – 70% more than in 2017.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has gained ground in various areas. Its greatest potential has been in sales (Amazon), which uses artificial intelligence to suggest products or send offers based on those previously seen, but AI can be applied in many areas. Nevertheless; this trend covers the finance, health care, media and advertising sectors. For years Amazon has used predictive algorithms to offer users recommendations based on their search or shopping history. Google uses machine learning to complete search expressions, and often succeeds in accurately predicting what the user is looking for. Facebook and the other digital platforms are also part of this unstoppable wave. The AI is essential for the future of self-driving (private, public, logistical, commercial transport and others as the imagination allows). Not only will they be useful when it comes to avoiding collisions or “dams” but also to optimize traffic on highways and roads.

According to the Gartner study, another area where there is a lot of potential for AI is marketing, where you can predict which emails the recipients see, what they click on, what they buy or what campaigns they subscribe to and generate actions customized to increase loyalty.

In these times we see how the AI is introduced in our day to day. A curious example of this occurred a few days ago in the mayoral elections held in Tama, Tokyo. Apart from the usual flesh and blood candidates, was Michihito Matsuda, the first robot with artificial intelligence that is presented to an election. Despite not being human, was the third most voted candidate, with a total of 4,013 votes.

The technological giants are already dedicating a good part of their human resources to this area. Microsoft opened its AI and Research Group unit, which has more than 5,000 engineers and scientists focused on improving the artificial intelligence of its products.

But how can artificial intelligence increase the sales of a company or future entrepreneurship?

a) Adjusting prices, put options, rewards and coupons in real time to try to convince undecided buyers.

b) Creating marketing campaigns on computers, mobile phones, email and other digital channels.

c) Creating software in which customers talk with bots that will work with language processing and help them make purchases.

In what other areas can AI be implemented and how will it work?

a) In agriculture, to control pests and manage crops more efficiently.

b) In the factories, perform dangerous assemblies and tedious activities (inspection and maintenance tasks).

c) In medicine, to help doctors make diagnoses, monitor the condition of patients, administer treatments and prepare statistical studies.

d) In domestic work, as a way to provide advice about diets, purchases, supervision and management of energy consumption and home security.

e) In schools, as a support to the training of students, especially in those subjects considered complex.

f) And to help experts solve difficult analysis problems or design new devices.

The future that artificial intelligence holds

We are at the beginning of another great convergence: automatic learning, the analysis and management of data at almost infinite scales and the increase in computing power. This convergence will make artificial intelligence (AI) essential. Impossible to conceive an aspect of our future that is not affected by it.

It is precisely for this reason, accompanied by the growing and unstoppable data explosion, that the AI has positioned itself as the essential technology of the coming decades.

In the immediate future we will see an advance at two speeds. Companies that already use it and all those companies that will need to integrate it into their products and services. Without this they will find it very difficult to compete with others who use data collection networks to apply these results to improve customer experiences and help guide business decision-making.

In this way Artificial Intelligence (AI) will promote the use of the Big Data resource and that few have been able to transform into value. Precisely this happens because of AI‘s ability to process data and how it provides an immense communicational, commercial and business utility that can, exponentially, replace existing technologies and conventional human capabilities.

Like all new technology in its early years, AI has been too expensive or complex to allow its use in most companies. Acquiring it and then integrating it with the usual operations can be costly and complex, but it is a matter of time that it becomes accessible and its use extends without limits. The truth is that the AI will not be limited to a specific area.

Many companies already use it in chatbots modes so that customers-citizens-taxpayers-tourists, etc … are treated interactively and recommend products, restaurants, hotels, services, shows, according to their search history, comments, purchases and recommend activities, offer special discounts, transportation or specific needs.

In this line, a great debate is opened focused on the reinvention of the workspaces (offices, factories, laboratories, assembly lines, etc) and work, from the irruption of the machines. Almost 6 out of 10 of the current jobs in OECD countries are at risk of disappearing as a result of the boom in this process. We will see the machine as a work colleague or as who occupies our job. The AI could help generate new levels of productivity, efficiency and profitability.

To conclude; There are many challenges facing the intelligence society. Labor, educational, social, even transcendental and ethical. But it is the path of progress in our times, generating new scenarios, new challenges and, above all, new opportunities.

We are creating a society in which man will coexist with artificial intelligences among which there will be personal assistants, autonomous transports, robots in our work and homes and digital minds that will be part of our everyday life. In the world of the future things will change more than we think, or imagine. If nobody proposes an alternative future, it may come out of our hands and we will regret it when it is too late.
